Unit & Membership Renewal

If you've been asked to help with your unit's annual renewal — sometimes still called recharter — you're in the right place.

Scouting America's renewal process has changed. Unit renewal and individual membership renewal are now separate processes. This page provides current information, national resources, and Last Frontier Council updates to help make renewal easier.

What's Different?

Unit Renewal

The unit renews annually through My.Scouting. This keeps the pack, troop, crew, or ship registered with Scouting America.

Member Renewal

Youth and adult memberships are renewed separately. Each membership is a 12-month term based on when that individual registered or renewed.

Unit Renewal

Unit renewal opens two months before the unit's expiration date. The Unit Key 3 or an authorized delegate can complete the renewal.

  1. Log in to My.Scouting.org.
  2. Go to Organization Manager.
  3. Select Unit Renewal.
  4. Validate your unit information.
  5. Review the information and make any necessary changes.
  6. Enter your name in the signature field.
  7. Review payment information and submit the renewal.

Before You Begin

A little preparation can help prevent delays.

  • Review your unit roster in My.Scouting.
  • Make sure adult leaders are current with required Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT).
  • Check for youth who have aged out of the program.
  • Review your registered leadership positions.
  • Make sure your unit information is correct.
Don't Forget: The annual Charter Agreement is still required. It is completed separately from the electronic unit renewal process and should be filed with the council.

Individual Membership Renewal

Individual youth and adult memberships do not automatically renew when the unit renews.

Members or parents should log in to My.Scouting.org and look for a renewal notification when their registration is approaching expiration.

  1. Log in to My.Scouting.
  2. Select the notification icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select the membership renewal notice.
  4. Review the member's information.
  5. Continue to payment.
  6. Review the Terms & Conditions and Scout Life subscription.
  7. Enter or confirm payment information.
  8. Place the order and complete registration.

Common Renewal Questions

Who can submit the unit renewal?
The Unit Key 3 or their authorized delegate can renew the unit.

When can my unit start renewing?
Unit renewal begins two months before the unit expiration date.

Does renewing the unit renew everyone in the unit?
No. Unit renewal and individual membership renewal are separate processes.

Does the unit have to pay online?
No. National lists payment options including credit card, bank draft, or payment through the council.

Is the Charter Agreement still required?
Yes. The annual Charter Agreement is still mandatory and is completed outside the electronic renewal process.
